Maxi-Cosi Car Seats Saving Lives. Meet The McGlynn Family

All it takes is a moment.

On August 18, Tom and Kayleigh McGlynn were driving from Brisbane to Canberra with their two children, and two dogs. They were relocating with their young family, and as a consequence were towing a trailer with all of their belongings, including white goods, clothing, and furniture.

On a remote stretch of road between Brisbane and Byron Bay the trailer started bouncing behind their FWD, and within seconds the vehicle smashed into the concrete barrier in the middle of the freeway.

Mum Kayleigh was driving the family car, travelling at 90kms per hour, and reports that the force of the rogue trailer made the car roll three times before finding rest upside down.

“It was a really high impact crash. All I could think of in that instance was the children. I remember when we were rolling that I thought that they were probably going to die. I remember thinking that I hoped I would die too.”  – Kayleigh McGlynn, Mum.

This is a story of hope, of a family finding themselves in a moment that is every parent’s worst nightmare.

The accident had caused a standstill on the freeway for a total of four hours. The McGlynn family car was a write off and the family were transported to the local hospital in Byron Bay.. Kayleigh and Tom had severe bruising, some broken bones, and cuts to their face and hands - but both their children were completely safe and without injury.

We first heard of this accident when Kayleigh reached out to us via Instagram with this private message:

Hi there,

I just wanted to send you a quick message to say thank you.

A couple of weeks ago we had an awful car accident (with a head on collision in to a concrete highway divider followed by the car rolling several times). My 4 year old and two year old were in the car, safely secured in their car seats, and there was not a single scratch, mark or bruise on them.

I am so, so grateful that you have such a safe product, thank you endlessly.
